Itinerary
Day 1 Morning departure for the journey west into Somerset and to Dunster for a four night stay.Day 2 A free day to explore Dunster at your own pace. Take a stroll through the medieval village, or visit its castle, church or the working water mill.
Day 3 This morning you will travel to the village of Bishops Lydeard, situated at the foot of the Quantock Hills to join the West Somerset Railway for a scenic journey to Minehead. On arrival in Minehead you have free time to explore this seaside town, with beaches to explore, a fishing quarter and a historic harbour. Also there is a 14th century church on the hill and the much photographed historic Church Steps. Take a walk down the tree-lined Avenue and visit the selection of tea rooms, pubs and independent shops in the town centre. You will re-join the coach and return to Dunster.
Day 4 Today you will travel to Forde Abbey. Home to the stunning Mortlake tapestries, woven from the internationally famous Raphael cartoons, now housed in the V&A, the Abbey has a rich and varied history spanning 900 years. The gardens are home to the highest- powered fountain in the country, and include topiary lined vistas, colourful herbaceous borders, an arboretum, bog garden, which together with swathes of early spring bulbs and camellias proved all year-round interest. You will return to the hotel mid afternoon for more free time to visit the town.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
