ItineraryItinerary Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to north Wales and to the hotel in Mold for an overnight stop.
Day 2 Depart the hotel and head to the port at Holyhead for the 14.45 hours afternoon sailing to Dublin, and then continue to your overnight stop on the outskirts of Dublin City.
Day 3 After breakfast, check out of the hotel and you will have some free time to explore Trim, with its castle in the centre of town, and where some scenes from the film Braveheart were filmed. You will then depart for your journey to Buncrana for a four night stay.
Day 4 Today you have a local guide join you as you are driven up to Ireland’s northernmost point, Malin Head. This region is a protected national park, with wonderful ocean views and rare species of flora and fauna. The tour continues back into Northern Ireland and to Derry/Londonderry on the banks of the River Foyle, the only completely walled city in Ireland and enjoying a resurgence following its 2013 crowning as the UK City of Culture. The award-winning Tower Museum provides a full history of this absorbing city, the Guildhall, Bogside Murals and new Peach Bridge are other distinctive monuments.
Day 5 Spend a relaxing day in Buncrana and enjoy the hotel facilities including the indoor pool. Take a stroll to the magnificent Lisfannon Beach or follow the shoreline on the gently undulating path of the Buncrana Coastal Walk and discover ancient forts including the ruins of a Norman castle.
Day 6 Today we have included a trip on the wonderful rail journey from Londonderry to Coleraine which Michael Palin described as ‘one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world’. The track runs alongside the stunning beaches, through Ireland’s longest railway tunnels and past historic landmarks. From here you will continue to the UNESCO World- Heritage listed Giants Causeway, a series of volcanic some columns carved by the force of nature and surrounded by more stunning coastal scenery. Take a look at the impressive visitor centre and discover the romantic legend of giant Finn MacCool who laid down the causeway as a path across the sea to his lady-love in Scotland. A regular shuttle bus escorts visitors from the visitor centre down to the shore for a small charge.
Day 7 Time to depart Buncrana and head to the Ulster American Folk Park, one of Northern Ireland’s major museums for you to explore and to obtain lunch before heading towards Dublin and on to Enniskerry for your overnight stop.
Day 8 An early start for the 08.15 hours ferry from Dublin to Holyhead, with breakfast served on board. On arrival in Holyhead you will commence the homeward journey.
