Itinerary
Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north to Cheshire and to the Crewe Hall Hotel for a four night stay.
Day 2 Today you will head into the scenic countryside of the Peak District and to the market town of Bakewell with free time to enjoy a coffee and perhaps try the famous Bakewell pudding. Enjoy a stroll around the town before travelling to the stunning Chatsworth House and Gardens. There are over 25 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall, regal State Rooms, restored Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery in this stately home and you will discover its art, history and family. Also explore the historic garden, famous for its rich history, waterworks and sculptures, and its Victorian rock garden and discover lots of hidden gems.
Day 3 This morning you will visit Chester for free time to explore this charming city and we have also included a two hour cruise along the River Dee - Enjoy marvellous views of the leafy Cheshire countryside as you glide along the River Dee, winding through the Duke of Westminster's Eaton Estate and up to Aldford Iron Bridge. This is a tranquil stretch of the Dee, with many opportunities to spot wildlife including herons, cormorants, and - if you are lucky - a kingfisher or two.
Day 4 This morning you will travel to Northwich and to the Anderton Boat Lift, where you will board a boat and enjoy a brilliant commentary of the history of the river and the Anderton Lift. The lift has earned its nickname of Cathedral of the Canals and was designed to lift boats and barges 50 feet from the River Weaver Navigation to the Trent and Mersey Canal. After the boat ride you can visit the coffee shop or the visitor centre. Returning to hotel with time for you to explore your surroundings and the old manor house.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey
