Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to Dover and the ferry crossing to Calais, then continuing the journey to Valkenburg for a four night stay.
Day 2 This morning you will visit the little village of Thorn ‘known as the white village’ with its cobbled streets, beautiful Abbey Church and characteristic white houses. Returning to Valkenburg where there will be some festive activity taking place in preparation for the carnival parade on Monday.
Day 3 Carnival Parade Maastricht. Today you make the short journey to nearby Maastricht for ‘Carnival Sunday’. Enjoy the street celebrations, a huge parade, live bands and endless happy faces. The magnificent costumes are one of the carnival’s most impressive features. Many families spend months preparing weird and wonderful outfits. All shops are closed but all the bars and restaurants remain open to celebrate. The parade takes place in the afternoon through the city ending in Vrijthof Square.
Day 4 Valkenburg at leisure. Time to relax and enjoy the many facilities in Valkenburg and the carnival parade consisting of strange, grotesque papier-mache figures on floats and people dressed in outrageous outfits. Brass bands blast out oompah music as the normally staid citizens suddenly dance the conga together through the streets.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
