Itinerary
Itinerary
Itinerary Day 1 Early morning departure to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais and on to Saarbrücken for an overnight stop.Day 2 Continue the journey into Austria and to Lake Achensee and the hotel for a five night stay.
Day 3 This morning you will enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride before travelling to Innsbruck. A city in the Alps and the capital of the Tyrol. It is known for its imperial and modern architecture, and the famous ‘Golden Roof’. Time to visit the Hofkirche, or stroll around the stunning ‘old town’ with its many shops, cafés and restaurants, or along the River Inn enjoying the mountain views and the gardens.
Day 4 A free day for you to explore the village and the surrounding area. The hotel is close to the lake and there is a promenade for lakeside walks with cafés that you can watch the world go by. Use your Achenseecard for discounts on the local cable cars or take a bus to one of the nearby villages. Further along the lake is Pertisau, which is another pretty lakeside town, where you could take the Karwendel cable car to the summit and enjoy a picturesque Alpine panorama of the mountains.
Day 5 Today you will visit Rattenburg, standing on the banks of the River Inn and tucked between the fortress on the hill and the river. The medieval centre of Austria’s smallest town is full of cobbled streets, alleyways and dotted with specialist glass shops. The town is rich in history for you to explore and no visit is complete without a visit to the glass blowing workshop at Kisslinger House. The pedestrian high street offers shopping or indulge yourself and enjoy one of the Konditorei Hacker’s unique yummy pastries. Afterwards you will travel to Jenbach and join the Zillertal Railway, a nostalgic narrow gauge railway that takes you through the Zillertal Valley to Mayrhofen. A busy ski resort and it is said that people from the Zillertal Valley are a little different, clever, adaptable and famed for their musical talent. Therefore it is of no surprise this region is well known for its mountaineers as it is for its musicians. Free time before boarding the coach to return to the hotel.
Day 6 A scenic drive takes you through the Wildschönau Valley, this unique valley with it’s four idyllic villages, of Niederau, Oberau, Thierbach and Auffach lies in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps. A stop will be made in Auffach where you will be able to experience the museums, cafs, restaurants and visit the 1st Tyroler Wood Museum with over 3000 exhibits displayed in no fewer than 59 wooden chambers. Through his wood carving talent Hubert has created this marvellous wooden world and well worth a visit.
