Wartime Britain 5 Days - Aubrey Park Hotel
Stevenage is a bustling New Town, constructed after WW2 to house those Londoners whose neighbourhoods had been damaged by German bombing. Indeed, it was the first such town to be given the go-ahead in 1946.
Stevenage’s history during the Second World war is even more intriguing. The Special Operations Executive was headquartered at Aston House, where they developed spying and sabotage techniques to be used in Occupied Europe.
As a New Town, Stevenage was planned with a traffic-free town centre where, to this day, all of the major facilities and amenities are located. There are several theatres and a leisure centre as well as all the usual High Street shopping brands.
In the heart of Stevenage you will also find the Fairlands: 120 acres of parkland with a sailing lake and a variety of leisure facilities.
