Tenby 5 Day Festive - Cliffe Norton Hotel

UK & Ireland
  • Duration: 5 days
  • Board Basis: Half Board
  • Tour Ref: D2TALF5380XM

Holiday Summary

  • Travel Type: Coach

Tenby is a uniquely attractive resort. Its pastel coloured buildings, narrow streets, fortified walls and the quality of the light from its shimmering bays give it an atmosphere which is reminiscent of the Mediterranean. Its medieval castle was bombarded into submission by Cromwell using artillery on both land and sea and the feeling of a town whose history is much richer than most seaside resorts is very strong as one ambles around the narrow streets or stops for a drink in one of the many bars or cafs. Tenby has a delightful harbour and four magnificent beaches. Nearby is Caldey Island monastery, a "must" to explore during your stay.

Itinerary
Christmas Festive ProgrammeMonday
Sherry reception on arrival followed by dinner and dancing.

Tuesday (Alias Christmas Eve) Full Day Excursion in the footsteps of Dylan Thomas to Laugharne & Swansea
Our excursion today takes us firstly to Laugharne (pronounced Larn) which is synonymous with Wales' famous 20th century poet and writer Dylan Thomas. He first moved to Laugharne in 1938 and made his home the Boat House, which is set in a rocky cliff face, just outside the village. The building is now open as a museum of his life and work. We continue to Swansea, where the life and works of Dylan Thomas are further celebrated in Swansea in the city's former Guildhall, now renamed the Dylan Thomas Centre, situated in the Maritime Quarter. Swansea also boasts an award-winning indoor market and a variety of shops from national and international chains to independent boutiques. We return to our hotel in time for dinner after which the evening is filled with dancing and entertainment.

Wednesday (Alias Christmas Day)
Morning competition to guess the weight of the Christmas Cake. Traditional Christmas lunch with 'Santa' and presents. Afternoon tea and games. Dinner followed by dancing and entertainment.

Thursday (Alias Boxing Day) Half Day Excursion to Pembroke
This morning we travel to Pembroke, where the main street is a delightful jumble of styles and periods of building. It is dominated at the upper end by the castle, a massive fortress centred on its great circular keep, almost 80ft high with walls 20ft thick. This was the birthplace in 1457 of Henry Tudor, later Henry VII. The main street is flanked with a good selection of shops and boasts two 13th century churches. Back at the hotel enjoy a pre-lunch glass of punch followed by Grand Boxing Day Lunch. Free afternoon followed by dinner and fancy dress farewell dance (please bring a costume).

Friday
Depart hotel after breakfast.

Individual hotel programmes may differ slightly from this programme.
