Day 1 - Outward Travel
Day 2 - Full Day - Tiverton Canal & Knightshayes Court
Scenic tranquillity awaits as we glide through the Devon countryside on our horse-drawn barge. /nThe Tiverton Canal was intended to be part of a much longer watercourse from The Bristol Channel to the English Channel./nThe Grand Western Canal was never finished and today only the stretch near Tiverton is navigable./nKnightshayes (entry included in tour cost) is a Victorian country house surrounded by acres of glorious gardens and parkland./nThe house is a rare example of the work of William Burges. Full of quirks and curiosities, it is a house of many faces./nThe formal and woodland garden is one of the finest and most varied plant collections in the country with over 1200 varieties./n
Day 3 - Day at Leisure
Today is left free to allow for relaxing in the hotel or exploring the local area. /nDon't hesitate to enquire with the hotel reception regarding local attractions and travel options.
Day 4 - Full Day - Exe Estuary & Powderham Castle
We enjoy a scenic boat trip around the Exe estuary./nInformative commentary brings to life the many interesting sights on the river's banks./nA large sand-spit at the river's mouth ensures the waters here are generally calm./nThis extraordinary castle (entry included in tour cost) is the Grade 1 listed seat of the Earls of Devon, with Grade 2* listed gardens. /nPowderham Castle lies in a beautiful deer park on the banks of the River Exe, just a stone's throw from the historic cathedral city of Exeter./nHighlights in the house include the Marble Hall, Staircase Hall and the spectacular music room with an original Axminster carpet from 1798. /n
Day 5 - Return Travel
Luxurious hotel with sweeping views across the resort and Lyme bay. Indoor & outdoor swimming pools, putting green, tennis court, spa facilities (charges apply). Meals are served in the sumptuous dining room where gentleman diners are requested to wear jacket and tie.
