Holiday Summary

  • Travel Type: Coach

Fort William, the Outdoor Capital of the UK, is not only an important tourist centre but also a splendid location from which to explore the magnificent Western Highlands. It is situated at the southern end of the Great Glen, on the shores of Loch Linnhe, beneath towering Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. For those who do not feel quite up to the ascent of Ben Nevis, nearby Aonach Mor offers Britain's only alpine cable car, rising over 2000 feet to the Snowgoose restaurant, from where there are spectacular views of the Great Glen. The surrounding countryside has some of Britains most spectacular and romantic scenery and its torrid history has produced over 30 battlefields in the Lochaber area alone. As a touring centre Fort William is unrivalled and our splendid excursion programme makes the best of this with coverage of many of the area's most interesting places.

Itinerary
Christmas Festive ProgrammeMonday
A wee dram of Sherry on arrival followed by dinner and Scottish festive entertainment and dancing.

Tuesday (Alias Christmas Eve) Full Day Excursion to Oban
Today our excursion takes us south to the town of Oban. We travel alongside Loch Linnhe passing the remarkable Falls of Lora, before arriving in Oban. Oban is the principal town on the west coast and port for many of the ferry services to the Hebridean Islands and the harbour is a constant source of interest. It is a bustling, energetic town with plenty of interesting shops. You could try and find your family's tartan then visit the Oban distillery to sample a wee dram. We return to our hotel in time for dinner after which the evening is filled with dancing and traditional Scottish entertainment.

Wednesday (Alias Christmas Day)
Morning competition to guess the weight of the Christmas Cake. Traditional Christmas lunch with 'Santa' and presents. Afternoon tea with fun and games including 'Toss the Haggis' and Bonnie Scots quiz. Dinner followed by Scottish entertainment.

Thursday (Alias Boxing Day)Half Day Excursion to Glenfinnan
After breakfast our morning excursion takes us through the town of Fort William and along the shore of Loch Eil to the picturesque village of Glenfinnan. Here we find the Jacobite memorial, maintained by The National Trust for Scotland at the head of Loch Shiel. Erected in 1815 to the memory of the Jacobite Uprising of 1745, the monument is a tribute to the clansmen who fought and died in the Jacobite cause. The Visitor Centre (entry fee may apply) on the site houses a fascinating exhibition, on 'Glenfinnan and the '45' and offers a commentary about the raising of the standard. Back at the hotel enjoy a pre-lunch glass of punch followed by Grand Boxing Day Lunch. Free afternoon followed by dinner and fancy dress farewell dance. Prizes for the best Scottish themed costume.

Friday
Depart hotel after breakfast.

Individual hotel programmes may differ slightly from this programme.

NOTE: This tour operates via Burtonwood Interchange, therefore clients travelling from towns north of Preston may wish to join direct at Forton Services.
