Fort William, the “Outdoor Capital of the UK”, is not only an important tourist centre but also a splendid location from which to explore the magnificent Western Highlands. It is situated at the southern end of the Great Glen, on the shores of Loch Linnhe, beneath towering Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. For those who do not feel quite up to the ascent of Ben Nevis, nearby Aonach Mor offers Britain's only alpine cable car, rising over 2000 feet to the Snowgoose restaurant, from where there are spectacular views of the Great Glen. The surrounding countryside has some of Britain’s most spectacular and romantic scenery and its torrid history has produced over 30 battlefields in the Lochaber area alone. As a touring centre, Fort William is unrivalled and our splendid excursion programme makes the best of this with coverage of many of the area's most interesting places.

A scenic journey takes us along Loch Lochy, then past the Five Sisters of Kintail to the much photographed Eilean Donan Castle. We continue to Kyle of Lochlash and across to the Misty Isle with a short tour of Skye visiting Portree, famous for its colourful cottages and then onto Broadford nestled below Ben na Calliach./n

Day 5 - Full Day - Full day on The Jacobite Steam Railway
Described as the greatest railway journey in the world, this 84 mile round trip takes you past a list of impressive extremes. Starting near the highest mountain in Britain, Ben Nevis, it visits Britain's most westerly mainland railway station, Arisaig; passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain, Loch Morar and the shortest river in Britain, River Morar, finally arriving next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe, Loch Nevis./nOur journey takes us across the 21-arched Glenfinnan viaduct, as seen the Harry Potter films which overlooks Loch Shiel and the Jacobite monument. Beyond Glenfinnan are the beautiful villages of Lochailort, Arisaig and Morar and we travel past Morar and the silvery beaches used in a number of famous films. Our destination is Mallaig, a port in Lochabar, where you can watch the ferries going to and from the Scottish islands, enjoy some freshly caught seafood, or browse the craft shops, before re-boarding the Jacobite to return to Fort William./n
Day 6 - Full Day - Full day to Loch Ness & Inverness
We journey along the shores of Loch Ness, home to the famous Loch Ness Monster towards the capital of the Highlands, where Inverness Castle dominates the horizon. The city is also home to St Andrew’s Cathedral and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery (entry fees apply). A visit to the Victorian Market is a must for bargain hunters./n

Situated on the shores of Loche Linnhe, just three miles from the centre of Fort William, with spectacular views across the loch from all of the public rooms and most of the bedrooms, the Croit Anna hotel offers a comfortable and friendly base in which to relax during a coach holiday to Fort William.
