Ilfracombe nestles around a harbour as old and as beautiful as any in Britain with the breathtaking scenery of North Devon as a backdrop. For the energetic there are splendid walks along the Coastal Path, the famous Torrs walks or swimming from the Tunnel beaches and coves. For those who like to take things a bit easier, one can simply stroll through the delightful gardens or while away an hour or two watching the ever-changing harbour scene. A boat trip is a "must" during your stay to see the spectacular cliffs of North Devon or visit the legendary Isle of Lundy. There is also plenty to do in the evenings with theatre, concerts, and cinema, as well as the entertainment provided at our hotel.

Day 1 - Outward Travel


Day 2 - Barnstaple & Woolacombe
The largest town in North Devon, Barnstaple offers something for everyone. The Pannier Market plays host to a range of events with regular markets, the independent shops of Butcher’s Row as well as multiple heritage trails taking in the town’s impressive architecture including the 17th Century alms houses, the Old Bridge and pretty churches. /nWe also visit the seaside town of Woolacombe who’s expansive beach has been voted one of the top 20 beaches in the world! Woolacombe itself is a lively village with great pubs and restaurants, and plenty to do away from the beach. A stroll along the dramatic coast path provides the perfect outlook for bird watching and seal spotting./n

Day 5 - Bideford, Great Torrington & Dartington Crystal
This historic port town of Bideford is situated on the estuary of the River Torridge, the town is known for its picturesque quay, independent shops and local produce. Sir Richard Grenville, who founded many of Elizabeth I's overseas colonies, is commemorated in the parish church. The arched bridge is one of the longest medieval bridges in England./nGreat Torrington is built on the site of an ancient settlement atop an inland cliff with the River Torridge below, Torrington is a friendly, welcoming market town which enjoys spectacular views across rolling hills and unspoilt green countryside. During the Civil War, the church was a Cromwellian prison and gunpowder store. In 1646 it was accidentally blown up along with 200 prisoners and then rebuilt in 1651. There are a wide range of attractions in and around the town. Explore the enchanting gardens of RHS Rosemoor and take a leisurely stroll./nLearn the history of glass making and the unique story of Dartington Crystal, the visitors centre lets you experience how molten glass is transformed into items of beauty and function. Walk through the viewing areas and overhead walk ways at your own pace watching the craftsmen at work./n

Day 6 - Dunster & Minehead
Discover medieval Dunster – a village caught in time. A fairy-tale castle sits high on a hill, a timber-framed octagonal market hall lies in the middle of the town and an ancient pack horse bridge stretches across the river – there is history here at every turn! We then make our way to the coast to visit seaside Minehead – a traditional seaside resort offering plenty to see and do!/n
