Exmouth developed as a resort in Georgian times and was once probably the most select seaside resort in Britain, home to such famous people as Lady Nelson and Lady Byron. Nowadays it offers a rich mixture of immaculate sands, lovely gardens, a busy marina and a wide range of sports facilities that combine to make it an excellent resort for all ages and interests. To the South the resort overlooks Lyme Bay, while to the West it looks across the estuary of the River Exe to the Haldon Hills and Dawlish Warren. There are boat trips aplenty but also lots to do on dry land with good shops, a museum, many old pubs and good walks at every turn. For the more active there is a swimming pool, golf, and all forms of water sports including a sailing school.

Day 2 - Full Day - Exeter & Powderham Castle
The city is famous for its cathedral, with long vaulted ceilings, astronomical clock and minstrel's gallery./nHistory and art lovers will also enjoy the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Gallery (free admission)./nTake a rest at the Ship Inn, which Drake used to frequent./nThis extraordinary castle (entry included in tour cost) is the Grade 1 listed seat of the Earls of Devon, with Grade 2* listed gardens. /nPowderham Castle lies in a beautiful deer park on the banks of the River Exe, just a stone's throw from the historic cathedral city of Exeter./nHighlights in the house include the Marble Hall, Staircase Hall and the spectacular music room with an original Axminster carpet from 1798. /n

Day 3 - Day at Leisure


Day 4 - Full Day - Plymouth With Scenic Cruise & Cream Tea
This historic naval city was the departure point of the Pilgrim fathers, James Cook and Charles Darwin./nAttractions include Gin Distillery tours, National Marine Aquarium (entry fees apply) and Royal William Yard./nEnjoy a scenic harbour cruise along Plymouth Sound, the River Tamar, the Royal Naval Dockyard taking in the breath-taking views along the south-west coast. A delicious cream tea is also included in the tour./n

Cavendish Hotel
This delightful hotel is wonderfully situated on the level seafront overlooking Exmouth's fine golden sands, a few minutes' walk from the shops. The Cavendish Hotel has 81 rooms each with central heating and a private bath or shower and WC. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryer, internal telephone and TV with radio channels. The ballroom has a dance floor and hosts entertainment most evenings. Free WiFi in public areas. Lift serves most rooms except 4th floor (a few stairs to some rooms on split level floors).
