Day 1 - Outward Travel
Day 2 - The Northern Peaks, Bakewell & Chatsworth
A medieval five-arched bridge spans the River Wye. The Bath House, adjoining Bath Gardens and built in 1697, is fed by warm springs. /nTraditional and modern version of the Bakewell Pudding / Tart are still made freshly every day in the town. /nThe Old House Museum (entry fees apply) with its 16th century walls of wattle and daub, records local life. /nHome of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and one of the country’s most outstanding stately homes (entrance included in the tour cost)./nTwenty six of the grandest rooms are open to the public, displaying magnificent paintings - look out for the 64ft long Painted Hall./nThe 100 acres of gardens were re-laid in 1830 and the village of Edensor was moved from the east of the estate to the west to improve the view!/n
Day 3 - Matlock Half Day
The fast flowing River Derwent made Matlock an early mill town./nBut it became a famous spa in Victorian times./nToday Matlock has attractive parks and architecture and a preserved railway./n
Day 4 - Ashbourne & Buxton
The delightful market town of Ashbourne has a largely Georgian feel with an attractive cobbled market place./nBuxton's attractions include the Devonshire Dome, Europe's largest unsupported dome structure (free entry, subject to Derby University campus opening)./nThe Pump Room is now used by local artists to exhibit and sell their goods and the local Museum has recently been improved and upgraded./n
Day 5 - Return Travel
Located on Eyre Street, this hotel offers a fantastic city centre location. Situated just 5 minutes walk from the hotel is Sheffield Town Hall which offers stunning architecture, and the beautiful Peace Gardens which are particularly impressive lit up at night.
