Day 1 - Outward Travel


Day 2 - Full Day - Castle Howard & Helmsley
One of Yorkshire’s grandest houses, the construction of Castle Howard took nearly a full century./nThe grand house was extensively restored following a fire in 1940./nThe house and its extensive gardens offer many elegant and dramatic scenes to delight the eye. /nHelmsley is a charming small town with a variety of interesting shops and cafes./nThe main sight is the ruined Helmsley Castle and adjoining walled garden (entry fees apply)./n

Day 3 - Day at Leisure


Day 4 - Full Day - York with City Cruise
York's medieval walls were built by Henry III around 1220. Some stretches can be walked on today (steep stairs)./nYork's Minster (entry fee applies) is the largest medieval cathedral in England - it took over 250 years to complete. /nThere are museums of Roman, Viking and medieval history (charges apply), as well as many interesting shops in "The Shambles"./nWe enjoy an entertaining and informative cruise on the River Ouse, through the heart of the city./nAs we glide along the shipper provides a revealing commentary on the history of York and the peoples who have lived in the city.
