The Queen celebrates her Sapphire Jubilee
Today, the 6th February 2017 marks a momentous day in the history of the English Monarchy as Queen Elizabeth II has spent 65 years on the throne.
When her father died in Sandringham, Queen Elizabeth was watching the sun rise over the jungle in Kenya. She was formally proclaimed as Queen by the Accession Council on February 8th 1952, her Coronation was the following year on 2nd June 1953.
The Queen is expected to commemorate this landmark date privately at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk and has no official engagements planned. In London Royal gun salutes have been staged in Green Park by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
