Door2Tour.com Accepts the Ice Bucket Challenge

Door2Tour.com Accepts the Ice Bucket Challenge

Brave members of the Door2Tour team took on the globe-sweeping ALS Ice Bucket Challenge today in aid of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Motor Neurone Disease).

The challenge landed at the company's door after a personal nomination to Managing Director, Adam Handy. Adam was joined by members of the team at their premises in Kent, and a handful of volunteers who were more than happy to unleash freezing buckets of iced water over their colleagues.

The idea of the challenge is that, once nominated, participants have 24 hours to withstand a bucket of ice cold water poured over the head or donate to the ALS Association. Technically those who choose not to take part in the challenge have to donate, although many accepting the challenge, including Door2Tour.com, are donating regardless.

ALS (known as Lou Gehrig's disease or Motor Neurone Disease in the UK) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The disease leads to muscle weakness and atrophy throughout the body, which can lead to paralysation.

The ALS Association has so far raised in excess of $41.8 million, compared to $2.1 million between 29th July and 21st August last year .

The team join the tidal wave of celebrities, organisations and members of the public to have completed the challenge that has quite literally soaked the world, from the likes of Virgin Holidays and George Bush to David Beckham, Bill Gates and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Adam Handy, Managing Director of Door2Tour.com said "It was a – somewhat cold – pleasure to do our bit for this fantastic cause. We hope that the awareness long continues to spread, and are looking forward to seeing others accepting the challenge!"

To donate, simply text ICED55, followed by your donation amount to 70070.

The team have nominated Stuart Render (Editor at Coach Monthly), The Shard London and Brendan Sheerin from Coach Trip who have 24 hours to complete the challenge – GOOD LUCK!
