Sydney Opera House turns 40
In October 2013, the iconic Sydney Opera House will celebrate its 40th anniversary since opening its doors to the public on 20th October 1973.
Since opening, the Sydney Opera House has attracted thousands of visitors through its doors for a variety of events. Many tourists make a bee-line for Sydney Harbour so they can have their photo taken with Sydney Opera House in the background helping to create a picture-perfect backdrop.
As part of the 40th Anniversary celebrations, the Sydney Opera House will be hosting a variety of commemorative events to mark this special occasion including an 'open door' event on 20th October that will allow visitors to see inside the Concert Hall. The celebrations will conclude with a series of special concerts. One of these will be the same event they held in 1973 where the Sydney Symphony Orchestra will perform Beethoven's Symphony Number 9.
