Increase in holiday spend for 2014
A recent survey from TripAdvisor has shown that at least a third of British holidaymakers will look to increase how much they spend on a holiday in 2014.
The views of 19,000 holidaymakers and 10,000 accommodation owners, who took part in the survey, were collated to reveal some interesting facts such as:
• Despite the fluctuating economy, approximately a third of Brits will increase their holiday budgets for 2014
• The time that Brits spend on holiday is shorter but they plan to take more frequent breaks in the New Year
• At least one in five Brits plan to reduce the number of long holidays they take in a year
• Two thirds of hoteliers are optimistic about the future and plan to increase their room rates
• In order to protect the holiday budget, many Brits are making changes to their daily lives with more than 50% cutting back on nights out and 8% cutting back on childcare costs
The results from the survey have shown that Brits are planning to take more trips in 2014 and to make this a reality, a number are cutting back on other aspects in their lives in order to afford their annual break with almost 88% believing that making cutbacks is a worthwhile sacrifice in order to make memories:
• At least 21% of Brits are willing to reduce their donations to charity in order to save for a holiday
• In some households, saving for a holiday take priority over childcare
• Approx. 8% of Brits are cutting back on child care costs and extra-curricular activities for their children
