The Bank Holiday Weekend Encourages Staycations
It would appear that the good weather planned for the August Bank Holiday Weekend has persuaded approximately 4.5 million people to opt for a staycation.
The UK has been experiencing a wonderful heatwave over the last few months and this is partly the reason why so many have decided to stay at home or opt for overnight hotel breaks as opposed to catching a plane. VisitEngland believes that the popularity of staycations will help to generate approximately £1 billion in tourism spending.
The areas of the UK that are receiving particular high interest in booking enquiries are the seaside resorts along the South Coast such as Folkestone, Eastbourne and Bournemouth. The Channel Islands have also seen a rise in booking enquiries due to the good weather.
Although there are a high number of people planning a staycation, approximately 1.8 million will be heading to the airports for an overseas break according to the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA). Areas of Spain, particularly Barcelona are proving to be extremely popular this Bank Holiday Weekend. Holidaymakers are also opting for city breaks to other European destinations such as Amsterdam, Paris, New York, Berlin and Dublin. Let's hope the good weather lasts a bit longer for us all to enjoy it before autumn arrives!
