New walking tours for Game of Thrones fans

New walking tours for Game of Thrones fans

The recent popularity of the epic fantasy TV series, Game of Thrones, has meant that some companies are creating walking tours so that fans of the show can visit the locations made famous by the TV drama.

The new walking tours will take place around Dubrovnik and Northern Ireland, launching this summer by a company called Viator. Each tour will be accompanied by a knowledgeable Guide who will be up-to-date in all the latest gossip and stories as the Game of Thrones comes to the end of its third season on HBO and Sky Atlantic channels.

The walking tours will take in the castles, fortifications, caves and countryside that form the backdrop of some of the most memorable scenes from Game of Thrones. The tour in Dubrovnik will last for approximately 4 hours and focuses mainly on the old town with stops at the city parks. Visitors on these walking tours will be able to climb the same walls that were attacked by the Baratheons in the first series. They will also be able to admire the castle used as King's Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdom's realm in the television series. Most of the battle scenes take place at the 11th century Loverijenac Fortress.

The second walking tour will take in the surroundings of Belfast which is what the Game of Thrones calls 'its permanent base'. There are a variety of scenes that are filmed along the Causeway Coastal Route where fans of the show can walk from the village of Cushendun to the caves when Melisandre of Asshai gave birth. From Ballycastle, visitors on the tour can walk through 'The Dark Hedges' near Armoy – a path lined with gnarled foreboding trees where the character Ayra Stark passed through on her escape from King's Landing. Visits to Ballintoy Harbour that was used as Lordsport Harbour and Downhill Strand the location for 'Dragonstone' are also included in the tour.

The company called Viator organise both of these walking tours with Dubrovnik costing from £46.93 per person and Belfast from £72 per person.
