Take a walk around London Theatreland
A selection of interesting walking tours covering London’s Theatreland will be running again this year according to the Society of London Theatre (SOLT).
These tours are extremely popular and add a fun aspect to your break should you be in London to watch a show this year. There are two walking tours that will be taking place, one is called ‘History of Theatreland’ and the other is called ‘Haunted Theatreland’ – both tours will be led by Blue Badge Guide, Diane Burstein.
The ‘History of Theatreland’ tour starts at the Embankment and weaves through the heart of London’s West End. You’ll see the quirkier theatrical sights such as a Victorian music hall that is home to fringe performances, the first theatre to host a strip show in the entertainment district and London’s most elegant stage door. There will be a host of theatrical anecdotes as well as current information about the latest shows and news from London theatre during the tour.
If you prefer things a little on the ghoulish side, you may be interested in joining the ‘Haunted Theatreland’ Walking Tour which takes place between October to December 2013. Here you’ll discover tales of betrayal, bereavement and murder on the cobbled streets and alleyways between Covent Garden and St James’. You’ll be taken on a journey through the darker side of Theatreland’s history so watch out for a ghostly clown, a phantom prompter, spooky superstitions and the eerie Man in Grey!
The History of Theatreland walking tour takes place on the following Sundays: 14 Apr, 12 May, 09 Jun, 14 Jul, 18 Aug or 08 Sept 2013 - leaving at 2.30pm from a Central London location.
The Haunted Theatreland walking tour takes place on the following Sundays: 27 Oct, 03 Nov, 10 Nov, 24 Nov, 01 Dec and 08 Dec – leaving at 6pm from a Central London location.
Each tour costs from £9.50 per person and payment must be made in advance by credit or debit card. Payment can also be made by cheque or Paypal. To book, please contact the Society of London Theatre (SOLT).
