Retired and taking three holidays per year

Retired and taking three holidays per year

Recent research has shown that if you are retired then you are in better shape than you were during your working life and are likely to take up to three holidays each year. The majority of those surveyed have no intention of slowing down just because they are getting older.

The study of 623 adults, carried out by the Skipton Building Society, has shown that these days people have a brighter attitude towards retirement acknowledging the fact that there is plenty more out there to enjoy and life isn’t over yet!

It also means that due to the extra time on their hands, without having to work, many people at retirement age or beyond are exercising more than they did in their twenties regularly hiking, swimming and cycling. Classes such as Zumba, dance and aerobics are not phasing the older generation either. Others choose to spend their time wisely by going back to school and taking evening classes or gaining a degree at higher education level.

Four in ten senior citizens are choosing to use their later years to ‘relive their youth’ by taking up hobbies and interests they previously enjoyed before work or family commitments got in the way. A quarter of elderly people choose to volunteer or do charity work on a regular basis while others embark on shopping, cooking, photography, gardening and reading. Looking to the future, at least 29% of Brits have aspirations to travel the world with 11% dreaming of learning a new language.
