The Book of Mormon is a new musical created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park fame and Robert Lopez of Avenue Q. Despite receiving mixed reviews, due to the shows content and the explicit language used, the Book of Mormon is certainly entertaining audiences of all ages across the world – it all depends upon how easily offended you are?
The Book of Mormon musical is a story that follows two young missionaries who have been sent to Uganda to attempt to convert the locals to the Mormon religion. The two characters couldn't be more different from each other even if they tried! Elder Price is an enthusiastic person who is committed wholeheartedly to his Mormon faith. On the other hand, Elder Cunningham is a bit of a nerd and has a habit of getting into trouble over his ability to seriously embroider the truth. As soon as they land in Africa, it becomes quite clear to each of them that this mission many not be as easy as first thought.
This blockbuster of a show is based upon the old-style of musical and features plenty of big song and dance numbers for the audience to enjoy. The Book of Mormon is fast-paced and playfully pokes fun at religion, sexuality, poverty and race. Since its opening night, the show has gone on to huge success winning 9 Tony Awards including one for Best Musical, 9 Drama Desk Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
