Set in the 1960’s in America in the dawn of the R&B era, Dreamgirls follows a trio of Chicago girls called ‘The Dreams’. They sing in competitions and are spotted by Curtis Taylor an ex-car salesman who wants to become their manager. After enjoying success the band soon begins to experience the pitfalls of fame when Curtis tries to change the lead singer from Effie to Deena. Dreamgirls is a popular musical based on love, friendship and success and is loosely based on Diana Ross & the Supremes.
Originally opening on Broadway in 1981, the show has won multiple awards and in 2006 Beyoncé appeared in a film remake. Amber Riley from US TV hit show Glee will be starring in the London production.
Dreamgirls includes iconic numbers including ‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’, ‘One Night Only’, ‘Dreamgirls’ and ‘Listen’.
