The number of passenger bags that went missing worldwide last year topped 42 million - an increase of 25% from 2006. ![]() 16.04.08 - All Inclusive Holidays Are PopularAccording to the website Jet2Holidays.com - all inclusive holidays are becoming more and more popular due to the weakening pound against the Euro. Savvy Brits are cashing in on all-inclusive packages to popular tourist destinations and the travel website has seen bookings increase by 37%. Also a recent survey by Halifax Travel Insurance has shown that 1/3 or all holidays booked by Brits are all-inclusive suggesting that consumers are taking the safer resort-based holiday option. They are currently putting together a 'Comedy Campaign' to tempt Britons to visit locations made famous by TV comedy shows such as Rab C Nesbitt, Last of The Summer Wine & The Likely Lads. Bring sunshine to the Morecambe seafront when you visit the statue of Eric Morecambe (Morecambe & Wise), grab a 'cushty' bargain in Peckham (Fools & Horses) or see if you can spot the wildebeest strolling past your window in Torquay (Fawlty Towers). To see what coach tours the UK has to offer click here. ![]() 11.04.08 - Tourists Opt For Some Tasty TourismA survey by travel website Expedia.co.uk found that more and more Britons are tempting their tastebuds by choosing destinations where sampling local cuisine means more than visiting the sights - some have travelled as far as Colombia just to taste the coffee! Visits to Parma in Italy to sample the local ham and to Greece to eat feta cheese are also proving popular with UK holidaymakers. Closer to home, around 20% have visited Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire to sample pork pies and about the same number have gone to Herefordshire to knock back the cider. Other regions visited include Roquefort in southern France for its cheese and Kalamata in Greece for the olives. Of the 22,000 people surveyed, 3% said they had been to Colombia for the coffee, while more than half (51%) had sipped champagne in France's Champagne region. Discover this for yourself with wonderful coach tours to Ireland. ![]() 09.04.08 - Local Sights Shunned By HolidaymakersA survey conducted by Halifax Travel Insurance has found that holidaymakers travelling to exotic destinations actually prefer to hang out at their hotel and take a dip in the pool instead of exploring the sights. The survey also found that 3 in 4 Britons make no attempt to speak the local language, while 70% never visit local attractions. On average, Britons spend less than 7 hours in total away from the confines of their hotel while on package holidays to exotic destinations. The survey showed that around 4.3 million people a year go on exotic-destination packages, with Egypt the most-popular destination. All-inclusive packages make up 33% of these breaks. British Airways chief executive, Willie Walsh, has said that the airline hopes to begin the task of reuniting thousands of travellers with their luggage soon. He also issued a fresh apology for the mass disruption caused by the chaotic opening of the new Terminal. 100s of flights have been cancelled or delayed because of problems with the new 'state-of-the-art' baggage system. Of today's flights, a total of 50 have so far been cancelled, after 54 were axed yesterday.
