Situated in the charming Guel Valley in the south east of the Netherlands, the micro, old town of Valkenburg has been a holiday resort for more than a century. Thanks to its beautiful environment, marvellous scenery and handy location for tours to Aachen and Maastricht, Valkenburg has a steady stream of tourists throughout the year.
As the only castle in the Netherlands to be built on a mountain, the ruins of the once mighty Castle of the Lords of Valkenburg dominate the town, with parts of walls and broken arches that are reminiscent of a collapsed sandcastle.
