Ostend has been a firm favourite with the Belgian Royal Family and the rest of Belgium's residents for years, hardly surprising given its individual charm, enticing stretch of seafront offering no less than five beaches, busy yacht harbour and gleaming, well landscaped parks. Other draws include bustling markets, shops a-plenty and a lively nightlife, the centrepiece of which is Ostend's plush casino.
During the day stretch your legs along the picturesque Albert I promenade, try out the pier's fish and seafood stalls, or join the crowds in sunbathing. In addition, sit yourself down aboard Ostend's miniature railway, take a horse drawn carriage ride through the city or catch Ostend's smattering of parades, markets, festivals and fairs. By night, stroll the old fishermen's quarter or gaze out to sea from the promenade's line-up of restaurants.
