You could call Thurso the stepping-stone of Scotland as the majority of visitors only come here on coach holidays to get to other places of interest. Thurso is the gateway to Orkney and is Scotland’s most Northerly town. Vikings were well established here from as early as the 900s, using the river mouth as a port and fishing base.
For fabulous views across to Orkney you should hop on coach tours to Dunnet Head where you can see as far West as the Sutherland Mountains of Ben Loyal and Ben Hope. Guillemot, Razorbill, Puffins and Kittiwake breed here between May and June. Take time out on coach trips to visit Duncansby Head, Old Wick, John O’ Groats, Pentland Firth, Forsinard, Lvbster or Dunbeath whilst in Thurso.
