Full Itinerary

Day One

Make your way to Avonmouth for embarkation and this afternoon's sailing.

Day Two

Today is spent at sea, getting to know Marco Polo and your fellow travellers.

Day Three

Marco Polo's first call is at historic La Coruna. It was from here that the ill-fated Spanish Armada set sail, but today it is a lively port with a thriving fishing industry. Step ashore to explore the atmospheric medieval quarter, stroll the seafront or join an optional excursion to Santiago de Compostela - destination of pilgrims and arguably the world's first tourist destination.

Day Four (Christmas Day)

Enjoy Christmas celebrations - Marco Polo-style - as you awake and spend the day at sea in the company of your fellow passengers. You'll be looked after by the Captain, Officers, crew and entertainment team, who will do everything they can to ensure that the day is one to remember.

Day Five

On Boxing Day morning Marco Polo arrives at the tiny British territory of Gibraltar, set beneath the famous 'Rock'. Explore the very British Main Street, and take the cable-car to the summit of the Rock, not only for the tremendous views to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, but also to meet the famous Barbary Apes.

Day Six

Relax and enjoy another leisurely day at sea, heading south and west.

Day Seven

The first of our Canaries' calls is Arrecife, capital of Lanzarote.Enjoy this sun-baked and colourful holiday isle, with black sand beaches and fringing warm waters. Take the chance to head to 'fire mountain' and take a camel ride to the edge of a volcano.

Day Eight

Today is spent on the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife. Marco Polo will dock in the principal port of Santa Cruz.

Optional excursions will let you discover the land that boasts 'the whole world in one day' - from a swim in warm waters to throwing snowballs on the slopes of Mt Teide, and from the glitz of the capital's shopping malls to stunning gardens, banana plantations and forests of giant pines and eucalyptus.

Day Nine

Marco Polo ties up in the Canaries' great trading port of Las Palmas, gateway to Gran Canaria, today. Step ashore to explore the bustling metropolis of modern Puerto de la Luz, or head to the palm-fringed squares of the old town, Vegueta, and perhaps take a shore excursion inland for some superb views.

Day 10

Some 500 miles off the coast of Africa, Madeira is one of the world's most beautiful islands. This sun-blessed, sub-tropical paradise is home to some of the most vibrant and exotic flora on Earth. Relax in the island capital, Funchal, visit the wonderful Botanical Gardens, and perhaps race downhill from Monte to Livramento in a wickerwork 'toboggan'.

This evening, celebrate the New Year on board in unique, cruise-ship style.

Day 11

Another day spent at sea as Marco Polo heads back towards mainland Europe.

Day 12

The Portuguese capital Lisbon stands on the River Tagus, down which the great adventurers sailed during the Age of Exploration. Today's shore excursion will introduce you to a city where the maze of narrow, hilly streets of the Alfamar district have stood, seemingly unchanged, for centuries.

Day 13-14

Relive the memories of your cruise as Marco Polo sails back to the UK.

Day 15

Marco Polo arrives back in Avonmouth at the end of a wonderful autumn cruise.
