Itinerary

  • Day 1 UK to Amsterdam
  • You’ll fly to Amsterdam today, where you’ll join your river cruiser. Meet the captain, crew and your fellow travellers over a cocktail before dinner. Later, we offer an optional river tour by night along the famous Port of Amsterdam and its canals.
  • Day 2 Volendam
  • Enjoy breakfast while cruising on the Ijsselmeer, one of the largest inland freshwater lakes in Holland. After lunch we arrive in the charming fishing village of Volendam.

This afternoon, why not join an optional excursion to Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum with wooden windmills, barns and houses dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

Later, we’ll enjoy dinner on board followed by an evening of entertainment, with our ship docking in Volendam overnight.
  • Day 3 Volendam and Hoorn
  • Today why not visit Alkmaar. On this optional excursion to this historic town we’ll see the Public Weigh House dating from the 16th century, the 17th century Town Hall and the impressive St Laurenskerk Church. Above all, the town is known for its cheese and we’ll find out more at the Cheese Museum.

We’ll return to our ship for lunch before sailing to Hoorn, a prosperous town thanks to its mackerel fishing and shipping trade. With free time here, why not head out with your fellow travellers to discover its historic sights. The infamous Cape Horn (Kaap Hoorn) is named after the town, which was home to the Dutch explorer Willem Schouten, who was first to sail around it.

Dinner is served back on board our river cruiser.
  • Day 4 Hoorn and Enkhuisen
  • Enjoy the views as we spend the morning cruising on the Ijsselmeer towards Enkhuizen.

Free time in the city will enable you and your travelling companions to make your own discoveries. The Zuiderzee Museum will give you a glimpse of life during Holland’s Golden era, with 135 period houses, streets and canals in its open-air section (entrance fee applies). We’ll enjoy a gala evening on board our river cruiser, which stays in port overnight.
  • Day 5 Amsterdam
  • We spend this morning cruising to Amsterdam. This afternoon why not explore the city at your own pace. Highlights include the Van Gogh Museum, Ann Frank House and the Rijksmuseum, home to Rembrandt’s world-famous Nightwatch.

After dinner you can choose to discover the city by night.
  • Day 6 Amsterdam to UK
  • You’ll disembark your ship after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.

Please note: This holiday includes walking in areas of rough ground, gradients and steps, often with no hand rails to offer assistance.
