Depart on your scheduled flight to Rome today, where you will stay for the next three nights. Enjoy dinner at your hotel this evening.

During your two-day stay in Rome we have organised an included and an optional excursion for you to enjoy. Your included full-day tour of Rome is hosted by a Local Guide who will introduce you to many of the major sights of this historic city including the Vatican City and entrance into the Colosseum. You’ll also have the opportunity to linger on the Spanish Steps, which join the Piazza di Spagna with the church of Trinita dei Monti, and be sure to toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain to ensure you return to the city one day. This monumental sculpture depicting the Greek god Triton in a seahorse-drawn chariot is arguably Rome’s finest fountain.

You can spend the rest of your time in Rome making your own discoveries or you may choose to join our optional half-day excursion to St Peter’s and the Vatican. Once again a Local Guide will share their knowledge with you as you visit the Vatican City and the Basilica of St Peter’s which dominates Rome’s skyline with its magnificent dome. Today’s tour includes admission to the Vatican museums, one of the most impressive collections of art and antiquities anywhere in the world, as well as a visit to the Sistine Chapel whose famous ceiling was painted by Michelangelo.

After breakfast this morning you will leave Rome and head south to Sorrento, where you will stay for four nights. En route a visit to Montecassino Abbey and the British Commonwealth World War II Cemetery has been arranged. After checking into your hotel, why not explore your new surroundings if there’s time before dinner this evening.

The resort of Sorrento combines a cosmopolitan atmosphere with a truly Italian style. Set on a peninsula offering magnificent views across the Bay of Naples, it is a wonderful setting with an abundance of restaurants and pavement cafes where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the views. Be sure to take the time to wander among the cobbled streets and its historic centre, enjoy shopping along the main street, Corso Italia, or find your way down to the picturesque harbours of Marina Grande and Marina Piccola. As you would expect, fresh fish features heavily on restaurant menus here as well as excellent pasta dishes and the distinctive wines produced in the Campania region.

A short ferry crossing takes you to the wonderful island of Capri where you can visit the villages of Capri and Anacapri, the Gardens of Caesar Augustus and see the Faraglioni Rocks.

Journey along the stunning coastline then enjoy free time in the picturesque town of Amalfi. Poised between the mountain and the sea, the town is dominated by its highly decorative Renaissance Cathedral, which was built in the 9th century and is well worth a visit. Alternatively, why not explore the narrow streets, where you will find plenty of cafés, shops and restaurants.

In the company of a Local Guide you will walk through the fascinating ruins of this ancient city of the Roman Empire, frozen in time when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD and buried the entire area under a layer of hot ash. Excavations have revealed fascinating remains and give an intriguing glimpse into the inhabitants’ way of life 2,000 years ago. There will be time to enjoy the facilities at your hotel or explore Sorrento further on your return.

You will transfer to the airport in Naples today for your return flight to the UK.
