Most who know Siena know it for the Palio festival, a bareback, break-neck speed horserace held around the main square-turned-race track every July 2nd and August 16th. Yearlong preparations go into the race that pulls in crowds of around 50,000 and lasts roughly 75 seconds, ranking as one of the most spectacular festivals in Italy.
In the 363 days when the festival isn't occurring, visitors on a coach tour can explore Siena's landscape, which is the city's greatest attraction. The majestic city owns distinct architecture and gothic features and is attractively medieval in appearance.
- Wander through arched alleys and narrow paved streets, most of which are pedestrianised, and take time out to check out Siena's Il Campo (main Square), Cathedral and Baptistery.
