There may only be 47 kilometres of it, but size is the only thing that Slovenia's coastline is short of. Sandwiched into it lies the cosmopolitan and chic resort of Portoroz, home to the largest sandy beach on the Adriatic and the most modern marina in Slovenia.
While most come here to soak up the Slovenian rays or take advantage of the excellent wellness facilities for which the resort is renowned, Portoroz has plenty to offer by way of its bustling harbour, numerous shops and popular casino. Tour the nearby town of Piran and experience the Italian feel with its arched alleys, piazzas and replica of Venice's Campanile. Alternatively, the real deal is only a day trip away by hydrofoil from Piran, Porec, Rovinj or Pula.
- Stroll along the promenade and see for yourself why the resort is nicknamed 'the port of roses'.
- For some Slovenian culture pay a visit to the Nautical Museum.
