Google has carried out an analysis on search queries to find out what customers are searching for when it comes to holidays and their choice of destinations to visit. They report that overall, travel queries have increased by 12% year on year.
More and more people are leaving their holiday research closer to the date of departure with queries peaking 12 days before Easter 2009 as well as just before the start of the School Summer Holidays. Due to the current weakness of the Pound, more people are choosing to holiday at home in the UK avoiding Euro and Dollar destinations. Queries for UK holidays has seen a significant increase with over 30% interested in traditional coastal resorts such as Blackpool and Brighton. However short-haul destinations have also seen a national increase of 9% with Turkey showing the strongest growth at 61%, followed by Egypt, Croatia and Morocco. Long Haul destinations have also attracted a lot of interest especially South Africa who has had a growth of 36% followed by Thailand, Australia and Dubai.
