UK's coastal resorts not a hit with overseas visitors

07/06/2011
A recent report carried out by VisitBritain shows that only 13% of the 30 million people who visit Britain choose to visit coastal towns and cities.

The Scottish coast was the most popular with overseas visitors looking for Scotland holidays with Edinburgh (768,000 visitors), Glasgow (312,000 visitors) and Inverness (180,000 visitors).

The report found that holidays to England were also popular with overseas visitors with Liverpool city breaks attracting the most visitors (162,000) due to its coastal attractions such as the redeveloped Albert Dock and canal. Approx. 128,000 people visited Brighton and Hove for its three seaside piers and eight miles of stunning beaches.

The majority of overseas visitors were from Germany with more than half a million choosing UK coach holidays. The most surprising results were visits to the UK from China and Russia (one in four) compared to visitors from France and India (one in eight).

Find out why so many overseas visitors book UK coach holidays and include visits to popular seaside resorts in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Looking for a little holiday inspiration?
