With news that Ford has withdrawn its partnership with the News Of The World, a selection of travel companies including Virgin Holidays and Co-Operative Travel have followed suit in response to the recent phone hacking scandal.
It is thought that the Co-Operative Travel Group have temporarily suspended any further advertising and promotional activity with the News Of The World until the outcome of the investigation into the phone hacking scandal has been published. The Co-Operative Group have very strong ethical standards and as they have received a number of complaints from their members, they thought that the only right thing to do was to suspend connections with the News Of The World until the matter had reached a suitable conclusion.
Virgin Holidays have also decided to temporarily pull all their adverts and TUI are apparently considering their next move. EasyJet are monitoring the situation and are aware of the concerns raised by members of the public and their own staff but they will not do anything until the investigation has been resolved.
There have been a number of developments in the phone hacking scandal and reports suggest that relatives of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan may have also been victims of the hacking as well as relatives of the 7/7 London bombings, murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler and the parents of murdered Soham girls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
The police are currently investigating the matter and it is thought that the Prime Minister is being urged to set up a judge-led public inquiry too.
