There are a number of reasons why there has been an increase in demand for European coach holidays but the main factors appear to be: hoteliers keeping their prices low, tour operators offering all-inclusive options and local restaurants and bars keeping their prices down too.
European city breaks are proving exceptionally popular with an increase in Brits booking coach holidays to Paris, Rome and Madrid. Spain remains the favourite with bookings up 11% compared to last year. Portugal has seen an increase of 8% and Greece (despite being hit by a series of angry demonstrations and strikes) has seen holiday bookings rise by at least 2%.
ABTA recommends that those holidaymakers looking for a bargain break should consider escorted tours to Egypt, Tunisia or Turkey. All of these holiday destinations are offering discounts in the hope of luring visitors back to the country amidst the on-going political unrest. Availability for cruise holidays is looking limited with an expected 5% increase in cruising from the UK this year. ABTA have also noticed increased interest in luxury holidays, adventure tours and spa breaks.
