The provisional New7Wonders of Nature are:
• The Amazon
• Halong Bay, Vietnam
• The Iguazu Falls, Argentina & Brazil
• Jeju Island, South Korea
• Komodo, Indonesia
• Puerto Princesa Underground River, The Phillippines
• Table Mountain, South Africa
Each location had to meet a certain criteria in order to be considered for the New7Wonders such as:
• Unique beauty of the nominated site
• Diversity and distribution (accounted for in 7 groups)
• Ecological significance (in terms of either stand-alone eco-systems and/or their significance for human beings)
• Historical legacy (relation that human beings and/or indigenous populations have or have had with the site)
• Geo-location (even distribution of the 28 Official Finalists between all continents)
These results will now be checked, validated and independently verified. Once this process is complete, in early 2012, New7Wonders will then work with the confirmed winners to organise official inauguration events.
