Summer events will not bring more visitors to UK

24/01/2012
Recent research has shown that although the UK is hosting come big events in the Summer 2012, this will not increase the number of visitors to our shores as originally first thought.

Industry insiders believe that visitor numbers will remain the same despite there being a host of events taking place in the summer. They forecast that there will be 30.7m arrivals in 2012 bringing a total of £17.6m to the economy. Studies show that 2012 will see a record number of holiday visits this year even though the business travel market is down which could fall further if the economic crisis does not improve.

Although industry specialists do not foresee an increase in visitors to the UK, they do believe that the events occurring in 2012 (such as the Queens Diamond Jubilee, the 100th anniversary of RMS Titanic and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens), they still believe that next year provides a fabulous opportunity to showcase the UK and open it up to new growth markets such as Brazil, China, India and Russia.
