Stonehenge voted most iconic landmark

29/10/2009
A recent poll carried out by Travelodge to discover the most popular iconic landmarks in Britain has seen Stonehenge being voted the best. The survey of 2,500 British young people aged 8 to 15 years saw Hadrian’s Wall awarded 2nd place followed by The London Eye in 3rd.

In this Top Ten of iconic landmarks, the children awarded Edinburgh Castle 4th place and Buckingham Palace in 5th with the Tower of London coming 6th. The only natural landmark to make this Top Ten was The White Cliffs of Dover which was voted 7th and the Angel of the North was voted 8th. The last two positions were given to Blackpool Tower and St Paul’s Cathedral.

‘Staycations’ have been extremely popular this year what with the recession and the unstable position of sterling against the euro and dollar and this has resulted in more families taking trips to see local landmarks in the UK. It has also provided children with the opportunity to visit these iconic landmarks and find out what makes Great Britain so great!
