More than half of those people polled also felt an immense sense of pride as they watched William and Kate take their vows at the altar of Westminster Abbey. British history, the NHS and our armed forces were among many other things that made the country great according to the 3000 people polled for the ‘Best Of British’ survey by sweet maker Henry Goode.
Fewer than one in five said they could not remember the last time they felt proud to be British, compared with more than a third in 2009. The bad usually follows the good and many found that drunken Brits abroad, football hooligans and The Only Way Is Essex were an embarrassment to the nation.
