The ticket application for the London 2012 Olympic Games closed at 1am this morning, one hour over the official midnight deadline, due to a last minute surge in demand from those registering for tickets.
At around 10.30pm on Tuesday those wishing to apply experienced problems accessing the site, with many placed in a holding queue while waiting for the site to load. After the holding page, some users then received the message: "Sorry, we cannot process your request. Please try again later."
Difficulties in applying continued for around 20 minutes, with the site back up as the deadline loomed close.
A total of 6.6 million tickets across all events were up for application. Up until 10pm on Tuesday it was revealed that some 66% of all tickets had already been applied for, with many (such as football fans) holding off till closer the time to see what the fixtures were.
We are offering the chance to take a tour of the Olympic Park before it opens, including a visit to the Olympic Park Viewing Gallery, and visit to Greenwich and a fascinating walking tour of London's East End. The
one-night Olympic Park tour costs just £99.95.
