With the ever increasing air taxes and fuel prices coupled with pay freezes and job losses, holidaymakers have been put in a confusing whirl concerning their holiday plans for 2011 and beyond. Many are considering replacing their overseas tours with a ‘staycation’ this year.
However, the survey carries some contradictions suggesting that consistently rising fuel prices will have a major impact on UK domestic holidays. A poll of over 2,000 Brits showed that 19 % said that driving would be too expensive so they won’t holiday in the UK this year.
British drivers are clearly frustrated with the ever rising cost of petrol making road trips in the UK less feasible and low-cost flights to other countries more appealing. But since airlines have started to introduce high fuel supplements and leading tour operators reporting a fall in forward bookings for this summer - it might all come down to a homeliday after all!
