Researchers for The Lonely Planet believe that Great Britain has ‘had its day’ with many destinations proving to be ‘overpriced and lacking in quality’ for holidaymakers. However, it does concede that many parts of the country are still ‘great’ and that is still one of the most fascinating places in the world to explore with its stunning coastlines, vibrant cities and Royal connections.
The latest Guide finds
London to have great restaurants with many free attractions for families and children to enjoy from museums to beautiful parklands.
Edinburgh was voted one of the world’s most fascinating cities and you’ll soon discover this on
Scotland coach holidays especially if you visit the
Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Overall overseas visitors will fare better if they choose to join
UK tours as they can take advantage of the weak pound however, those Brits planning on a ‘staycation’ are likely to find they are ‘out of pocket’. The Lonely Planet says that it is possible to find a cheap holiday at home but in the long run, it will probably cost the same as a
European tour or
worldwide touring holiday. If you’re on a tight budget, there is no getting away from the fact that holidaying in the UK isn’t cheap with public transport, admission fees, restaurants and hotel rooms all tending to be more expensive compared to other European countries. Basically, if Brits cannot find value for money with their ‘staycations’ this year then, they will be planning on an alternative holiday in 2012.
