The top business leaders from across Wales have been honoured at the 2012 Institute of Directors (IoD) Wales Director of the Year Awards held at a glittering lunch event in Cardiff on Thursday, May 17th with nominations open to anyone working at director level at any type of business.

Jason Edwards, Commercial Director at Local Family run Coach operator Edwards Coaches was nominated for and took home the award of ‘Director of the Year (in a Family Business)’ at the awards ceremony focusing on a number of key areas including, the companies continued strive to provide a quality service across all levels, the companies continued growth over recent years and the commitment they provide for staff and the local economy.

The awards presentation was hosted by IoD Wales Director Robert Lloyd Griffiths who spoke of the winners: "Our winners represent all that’s good about Welsh enterprise; they’re hard-working individuals who have key leadership roles in wonderful modern businesses. There’s a great deal of effort amongst private sector leaders to help steer Wales and the UK away from difficult economic times and our winners are brilliant examples of that drive and skill."

Amongst the guests at the awards ceremony was the Minister for Business Enterprise Technology and Science, Edwina Hart. The Minister commented on the event by saying, "I was very impressed by the calibre of those nominated. We need leaders and managers with the vision, confidence and skills to create strong, successful and sustainable businesses to revitalise the economy and create jobs."

"These awards are important as they recognise and reward those making a significant contribution to the success of the businesses and organisations they work for, despite the very challenging economic climate."

This is the third major award that Edwards Coaches have won in just two months with other successes including:

• The UK wide National Express Awards for ‘Coach Operator of the Year’
• The Coach Tourism Awards for ‘Coach Tour Operator of the Year’

The company is looking to continue its success and follow in the footsteps of one of their prestigious clients, the Welsh Rugby Union Team, by scooping their very own ‘Grand Slam’ at the upcoming 2012 Group Travel Awards being held on 15th June where they are finalists for the ‘Best Coach Operator for Groups’ Award.
