Don't shell out on holiday

26/09/2011
Pester power from children are the main reasons why the amount actually spent on holiday is so much more than what their parents had originally budgeted for.

Research from the Post Office Beach Barometer has shown that at least one in 20 families spend more than £200 per child by giving in to their demands for beach toys, ice-creams and activities whilst on their family holiday. At least 87% of parents shelled out for fizzy drinks, pedaloes, water park entrance fees and beach gear to include buckets and spades to keep their children amused during the annual family holiday.

This research from The Post Office also found that family meals in the resort restaurant can rock the holiday boat too with the average cost of a 3-course meal setting a family of four back just over £34 when holidaying in The Algarve but the same meal can cost almost double in Croatia and even three times more in Italy.

The main reason for the hike in holiday spend is mainly due to Sterling getting a battering and when you combine this with higher resort charges, families will have to contend with spiralling holiday costs this year. Research shows that paying out for kid’s must-haves could bust the holiday budget so it is wise to pack the suitcase carefully!

Hopefully these little tips will help towards you having a happy holiday the next time you go away. Should you be looking for inspiration for your next escorted tour?
