You can more or less hear the subtle groaning from parents up and down the UK as they contemplate what to do with the children this summer but if you’re considering days out, you may need to have second thoughts…
It is rumoured that families will end up spending an average of £2270 on activities for their children during the school summer break with many overspending their budget by at least £550.
To try and avoid this overspend, families are saving up by selling items on eBay, scouring charity shops for bargains and accepting hand-me downs. At least one in five parents has worked extra hours and one in ten has taken on another job in order to afford to pay out for day trips and other treats during the six week holiday. Despite parents doing this, the poll carried out by satellite TV service Freesat has shown that at least three quarters of children will still complain of boredom!
