Recent figures from ABTA show that approx. 4.25 million Brits travelled abroad for the Christmas and New Year break compared to just under 4 million this time in 2010. The peak travelling days for December 2011 were 22nd and 23rd with many looking wanting to spend the Christmas period skiing. Others preferred to spend the festive break in resorts such as the Canary Islands, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Mexico in search for the sun.
Brits weren’t simply escaping the UK for Christmas, many opted to spend New Year’s Eve in foreign climes with city breaks to Paris, Reykjavik, Rome, Dublin and New York proving rather popular in 2011.
This shows that despite the recent doom and gloom of the economic crisis hitting the world, this hasn’t stopped Brits from booking breaks away, whether they are visiting friends & family or looking to enjoy winter sun or guaranteed snow – many are determined that their holiday plans will not suffer even though they have to pull a little tighter on the purse strings.
