British Tourism Week 2011

12/03/2011
To coincide with the launch of British Tourism Week 2011 (12 Mar – 20 Mar 2011), we’ve decided to take a look at a variety of destinations that make the UK so special. For Destination #1 we’ve chosen the beautiful city of Oxford.

When considering coach holidays or city breaks to Oxford, you immediately think of beautiful architecture, a skyline full of spires, cyclists on every corner and the Inspector Morse TV series. But you’ll find that this diverse city has so much more to offer, you just have to dig a little deeper to discover its secrets!

Culture vultures will love the many historical gems that Oxford city breaks have to offer from the birthplace of Winston Churchill, Blenheim Palace to Christchurch College and the Ashmolean Museum. For a spot of retail therapy the ‘city of dreaming spires’ will be suitable for any shopaholic from the regular High Street stores to the discount marvel that is Bicester Village where you can grab yourself a bargain on some Designer clobber.

You can also find a wide variety of sporting activities when on coach trips to Oxford from beautiful country walks through Oxfordshire’s Cotswolds to cycling along riverside paths and punting on the Thames.

You’ll find as you explore Oxford that it has many connections to the TV/Film world from Hertford College (Brideshead Revisited) and the Botanic Garden (Midsomer Murders) to Inspector Morse’s favourite pub The Trout at Wolvercote and not forgetting Christ Church College and Duke Humfreys that both featured in Harry Potter as Hogwarts Hall and Library. Oxford coach tours are the best way to travel to see these famous TV/Film locations and really feel a part of it.

When on city breaks to Oxford, why not stay in a charming olde world B&B or Pub, treat the kids to a ride on the ‘topless bus’, ride a steam train at Didcot Railway Centre or cruise on Salters Steamers. Stock up on some bargains at the Covered Market, get up close to the animals at Cotswold Wildlife Park, see the remains of the Dodo at the University Museum of Natural History, climb at least one tower to get an amazing view of the spires or simply relax with a coffee in one of many pavement cafes and watch the world pass you by!

Our next Brit Hotspots will appear in our Latest News over the weekend and throughout next week so keep your eyes peeled for our pick of the hottest destinations for UK coach holidays!
