Bad weather encourages holiday bookings

05/01/2011
Those travel companies who have been panicking about the VAT rise and people cutting back on their spending will take comfort from recent research by Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance that shows more than 13 million people will book a holiday before the end of February.

Apparently, this is all due to the adverse weather conditions the UK experienced before and during the Christmas period. Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance found that many people were fed up with the snow, travel delays and cancellations and this could lead to an increase in people intending on booking a holiday to give them something to look forward to in 2011.

The results from this survey have shown that almost half of the people interviewed would be looking at European Tours and at least 6% would be booking USA escorted tours with 29% planning UK tours. Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance predict that approximately £11 billion will be spent on such bookings and this shows that spending is up 49% compared to the same period last year.
